Music in Dialogue

Music in Dialogue is a new concert series, setting Music in interactive context with Literature, Dance and Visual Arts.

The series sets out to explore and experiment with the many ways music can interact with other art forms. Sometimes to the point of questioning the actual separation between them.

Each of the 3 concerts is dedicated to one pairing: Music and Language, Music and Movement, Music and Vision and welcomes artists from the respective fields. The programs feature music from the Baroque to the Contemporary genres, including works composed especially for this series. Just as a dialogue involves spontaneous reciprocity, improvisation is a vital element in these concerts.

Music in Dialogue III - In Dialogue with Vision

The third concert of the series will feature instrumental performances by pianist Anna Khanina, Cellist Hamilton Berry and Violinist Liv Heym in interaction with visual art projections, electronic sound paintings by composer and clarinetist Carlos Cordeiro. as well as a new composition by Composer/Violinist Caroline Shaw.

It is a fascinating search and challenge to look into the ways Music and Visual Art relate to each other. Music being the creation of sounds and Visual Art being traditionally concerned with the creation of objects, they seemed fundamentally different from each other. Yet there are elements of movement and shape, contrast and structure that serve as links. Not to mention that Music has an illustrative quality just as Visual Art.

"Night and Light" - Duo improvisation by Hamilton Berry and Liv Heym on three painting by James Whistler, Edward Hopper and Vincent van Gogh

"Sketches" - electronic sound paintings by Carlos Cordeiro

A new work for String Trio by Caroline Shaw
